Information And Tips on Eczema Treatment

Skin conditions that cause inflammation and rashes are usually referred to as Eczema. Often the cases involve nothing more than red, inflamed skin but they can get far worse and may result in bleeding from the skin. Often the problem is to stop the person from scratching the skin and to do this an Eczema treatment using drugs that help control itching are used.
The problem with Eczema is that the skin loses its natural moisture which needs to be replaced so moisturizing creams or lotions. Any Eczema patient will tell you how important it is to keep the skin moisturized and to cease using any product that has the opposite effect. Very dry, flaky skin will use a thick ointment, called an emollient. ight emollients like aqueous cream may dry the skin if it is very flaky, so heavier ointment should be used. Hydrocortisone and Desonide corticosteroids are two creams or ointments that have a good success rate at controlling moderate or lower cases of Eczema but cannot offer a long term treatment.
Warnings are always given when using corticosteroids though as their overuse will often make the skin become more fragile and make the condition worse than it was. Recent studies provide hints that diet and nutrition can play an important role in treatment as even a food allergy may trigger atopic dermatitis. This could be the breakthrough many Eczema victims have been waiting for once they have identified which foods are causing the flare-ups. Foods that seem to fall into this allergy category are nuts, wheat, coffee, milk, cheese, butter, eggs and Soya although not every one of these will affect ever Eczema sufferer.
Other methods of treating Eczema also come in the form of Chinese Traditional Medicine and alternative therapy. Patients should inform their doctor, allergy consultant or dermatologist if they are pursuing one of these treatment routes. It would be fair to say that there are probably more treatments available for the treatment of Eczema with these therapies than with conventional medicine but there is still no guarantees of their efficacy. The use of antibiotics for the treatment of Eczema has happened owing to the fact that open skin would allow the entry of harmful bacteria.
To make matters worse, the Eczema sufferer can cause this problem themselves by constant scratching. A further deterioration will be seen in the skin if this happens, until the correct antibiotic is prescribed. Although it has mixed results, Ultraviolet light in the UVA spectrum is having a positive effect with treating the eczema of certain individuals. On the negative side though, we now know that exposure to UVA light can cause skin cancer after prolonged exposure. While this is not a complete list or eczema treatments, it does give a reasonably good idea as to the range of therapies used.
